چکیده

BACKGROUND In this study, we aimed to determine whether neutrophil / lymphocyte ratio (NLR), obtained by dividing the number of neutrophils lymphocytes, and uric acid (UA) levels in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients vary compared with healthy controls establish correlations among these changes themselves as well between such MS subtypes, immunomodulatory drug use, duration disease prognosis. METHODS 150 who presented our hospital were diagnosed volunteers retrospectively included study. EDSS score (Expanded Disability Status Scale) was used assess disability patients. RESULTS Compared volunteers, had lower UA (p < 0.001) higher NLR values = 0.02). addition, a low or those on immunomodulating drugs 0.001, p 0.04, respectively). value 0.001). There negative correlation (r ‒0.23, 0.003). Similarly, level decreased increasing ‒0.38, 0.001; r ‒0.17, 0.02, CONCLUSION Evaluating value, recognized new marker for inflammation MS, together thought be protective might more effective than evaluating parameters alone demonstrating (Tab. 4, Ref. 28). The Relationship between Glutamate and Multiple Sclerosis

Glutamate is the most important excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system which is involved in synaptic transmission, brain development, synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory. Normally, the enzymatic destruction of glutamate does not occur in the synaptic and extracellular space, but glutamate is removed through specific transporter proteins, leading to stabilization of glut...

The Correlation between Uric Acid Levels and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

Introduction Uric acid (UA) may act as an antioxidant in ALS pathophysiology. This study examined whether serum UA concentration correlates to clinical course in the ALS patients. Methods We measured serum UA levels in 51 sporadic ALS patients, and compared them to 51 age-and-gender-matched healthy subjects. We analyzed the correlation between serum UA levels, illness duration , and disease “co...
